SAMPLE WEDDING CEREMONY SCRIPT

WEDDING CEREMONY

Friends, we have come here today to celebrate love.

We see it in the faces of (Groom) and (Bride), who stand before us, but we experience it in our own hearts as well.  This love is powerful enough to untie the strong entangled knot of life.  It is a love which is spoken of in all religions, which kindles our souls with hope and which is our true home, our true meeting place.

(Groom) and (Bride) have opened their hearts to one another, and today in just a few moments will share their vows of marriage together.  We are deeply grateful to them for opening their hearts to us as well, inviting us to witness and share in this precious moment.  To this day they bring the fullness of their being as a treasure to share with one another.  Their marriage is being entered into reverently, with the recognition of a true union which has been discovered.  For what greater joy is there for two human souls, than to join together to strengthen each other in all their endeavors, to support each other through all sorrow, and to share with each other in all gladness?

We hope that the words and spirit of our gathering may be filled with a truth that will deepen with the passing years.  We hope too that the meaning of the vows that (Groom) and (Bride) are about to share will deepen as well, as they discover the endless possibilities of this life together.  This is a love which need not be tarnished by common events, but which can flower both in deepest adversity and in greatest joy.  As the years go by, you will find more and more in one another a loveliness which neither comes nor goes, which neither flowers nor fades, no longer even taking the form of face or hand or words or knowing.  Everything in your marriage can partake of this mysterious beauty beyond beauty, until wherever you turn you see reflections of this loveliness.

We ask that the vision you have of one another be always informed by that radiant power which first brought you together.  Love is stronger than your conflicts, bigger that life’s changes, the miracle always inviting you to learn, to blossom, to expand.  It is to love that you must always return.

So we are gathered here today in the presence of God and of these witnesses, to join (Groom) and (Bride) in matrimony, which is honorable among all men; and therefore –is not by any- to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly – but reverently, discreetly and solemnly.  Into this holy estate these two people present now come to be joined.  If any person can show just cause why they may not be joined together –let them speak now or forever hold their peace.

Who gives this woman to be married?  (If father is giving away)

(Groom), will you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love her, comfort her, honor her and keep her, forsaking all others for as long as you both shall live?

(Answer: I do)

(Bride), will you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love him, comfort him, honor him and keep him, forsaking all others for as long as you both shall live?

(Answer: I do)

(Take the rings)

Repeat after me:

I, (Groom), take you, (Bride), to be my wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part.  (Put the ring on her finger and say):  With this ring, I thee wed.

I, (Bride), take you, (Groom), to be my husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, to love and to cherish, till death do us part.  (Put the ring on his finger and say):  With this ring, I thee wed.

Let these rings be given as a symbol of your love and commitment to one another.  And just as these circles are without end, let your love be eternal.

(Optional for Candle Ceremony)

(Bring the candles)

This candle you are about to light is a candle of Marriage.  Its fire is magical because it represents the light of two people in love.

This candle before you is a candle of Commitment, because it takes two people working together to keep it aflame.

This candle is also a candle of Unity because both must come together, giving a spark of themselves, to create the new light.

As you light this candle today, may the brightness of the flame shine throughout your lives.  May it give you courage and reassurance in darkness, warmth and safety in the cold, and strength and joy in your bodies, minds, and spirits.

………………………………………………………………………………………………

May your union be forever blessed.  Those whom God has joined together, let no man put asunder.

(Hold hands)

(Groom) and (Bride), you have consented together to be joined in holy matrimony and have expressed your loyalties one to the other.  Therefore, with the power vested in me by the State of Florida, I now pronounce you husband and wife.

You may now kiss the bride.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you Mr. and Mrs. __________________.
